Cat took me to dinner at Bouchard for my birthday. A cosy little French restaurant on Mount Street (yes, it's that really steep hill near Kings Park).
We started our meals with a small appetiser consisting of duck parfait, toasted brioche and quince jelly. The parfait and brioche melts in your mouth and the quince jelly offered a burst of fresh flavour.

For entrée I had stuffed and roasted quail, served with a mushroom mousse and asparagus spears. The quail was roasted perfectly and the mushroom mousse smacked my taste buds with flavour.

Cat opted for the seared scallops, topped with black truffle. Nice delicate flavours, always a winner if you like seafood.

For the main, Cat tucked into the seared duck breast served with a potato rosti, sweet potato slick and quince jelly. The duck flesh was soft as silk and the skin was seared to a crunch. Cat had no problems gobbling down this mouth watering dish.

I had the stuffed rabbit loin with crushed peas and cannelloni. The rabbit was a little tough but the flavours were well balance between sweet, salty and acidic notes. A nice dish, but compared to the duck Cat had, it pales in comparison.

Before dessert, we sipped on a palate cleanser. A pineapple soup with strawberry foam.

Cat went with the white chocolate soufflé served with espresso icecream. A great combination with the sweet soufflé balanced by the bitterness in the icecream. I opted not to have a dessert and finished the night off with a traditional short macchiato.
A dining experience worth trying, both Cat and I enjoyed the dishes. Good food and reasonable prices for French dining (especially considering it was with wine).
Sai
(p.s. Matt Moran popped in to eat on the night, after the Good Food and Wine Show, so the food's good enough for him.)
