Truffle oil is awesome! Plus it goes with nearly everything (at least a fungi loving nut like myself thinks so).
It is basically a high quality olive oil that has been infused with truffles. Just drizzle it over foods to give it a little aroma boost. You only need a little bit to get that awesome flavour! We use it over pasta, soups, pizza and lots more.
The taste of truffle oil is a little hard to describe... at best, I reckon it provides an earthy, savoury flavour to the dish. Like a natural flavour enhancer.
Truffle oil is no substitute for the real thing, but it is a much cheaper way to get that special flavour into your food.

Is it an over-powering taste? or very subtle?
ReplyDeleteGoes well with western food only?
It is pretty strong but we usually only use a little bit of it.
ReplyDeleteStill need to try it out on more stuff but I don't see why it would only go with western-style foods only.
